Reflections from the winter mini-pause
Connection, ritual and returning to ourselves
Hello friends,
We have just wrapped up our January Mini-Pause.
Over ten winter days, we practiced something deceptively simple: pausing on purpose.
The January Mini Pause was created as a response to a feeling we kept hearing again and again—“I’ve been away from myself for a long time.” Winter, with all its darkness and demand for endurance, can either pull us further out of balance or invite us back into rhythm. Together, we chose the second path.
Across the gathering, we explored what happens when we turn down what depletes and make more room for what sustains.
We began by creating a Cozy Corner—a physical and metaphorical space to slow down and take stock. From there, we practiced honoring rest (including the radical act of doing nothing), listening beneath the noise of modern life, and creating without judgment. We read poems together on Burns Night, stretched like cats, doodled, walked outside, and remembered that joy and seriousness can coexist.
We brought awareness to food—not as rules or restriction, but as information. Through mindful eating, nourishing winter recipes, and simple frameworks for balanced meals, we explored how food can ground us, stabilize energy, and support our nervous systems during the long winter stretch.
We also looked honestly at cravings, fixed mindsets, and habits that no longer serve us. We practiced letting go—not perfectly, but intentionally. We paid attention to transitions, those small in-between moments that so often get filled with scrolling or rushing, and experimented with using them instead as mini-pauses.
Connection was woven throughout—through shared live sessions, spontaneous reach-outs, poems read aloud, and the quiet knowing that we were practicing alongside others. And finally, we ended where we always like to end: with celebration. Not a grand finale, but recognition—of consistency, effort, and the steadier balance that comes from returning to ourselves again and again.
The Winter Mini Pause wasn’t about fixing anything.
It was about remembering what already works when we give it space.
Thank you for practicing with us, for your presence, and for the care you bring to how you live your days. May the routines and rituals you touched here continue to support you through the rest of winter and beyond.
With love + warmth,
Ashley + Trisha
